Roles & Capabilities
Global Brigades welcomes all medical specialists on our Medical Brigades. However, practitioners may be limited in the actions they may perform within brigades, based on legal regulations established by the destination country's Ministry of Health.
Join a Medical Brigade
Medical professionals join brigades that are organized by student-led chapters. Contact professionals@globalbrigades.org to be matched with a student chapter for an upcoming brigade. Once matched, follow the steps below to prepare for your upcoming brigade:
1. Review Healthcare Professional Packet
The Medical Healthcare Professional packet outlines your role as a practitioner in the medical clinic and what to expect during the brigade.
2. Sign Up for the Brigade
Once you've been partnered with a chapter, follow these steps to officially sign up for the brigade.
- Search for the group's university at www.globalbrigades.org/chapters-map
- Select the appropriate program (Medical)
- Go to the "Brigades" tab and select the appropriate brigade
- Click "Volunteer".
- If this is your first time volunteering with our organization, you will be prompted to create a volunteer profile in order to join the brigade.
Note: "Become a Member" will sign you up for a monthly or yearly membership donation. This is a different function than signing up as a volunteer for a brigade.
3. Fundraise Your Donation Goal
All volunteers, including healthcare professionals, fundraise to support Global Brigades’ Holistic Model. Once you meets your set Donation Goal for your interested country, you are eligible to join us on-the-ground to see your fundraising efforts put into action by participating in a Medical Brigade. Volunteers have up to 1 year to participate in a Brigade after they meet their Donation Goal. If a volunteer decides not to participate in a Brigade, the funds raised will be utilized to support Global Brigades’ mission.

Donation Goals
Volunteers fundraise to support Global Brigades’ Holistic Model. Once a volunteer meets a set Donation Goal for their interested program and country, they are eligible to join us on-the-ground to see their fundraising efforts put into action by participating in a Brigade. Volunteers have up to 1 year to participate in a Brigade after they meet their Donation Goal. If a volunteer decides not to participate in a Brigade, the funds raised will be utilized to support Global Brigades’ mission.
When a volunteer participates in a Brigade, the volunteer’s ground transportation, food, lodging, and emergency insurance are all covered. The funding that the volunteer raised also supports all the necessary costs for program implementation, supplies (such as medication), and staff.
Airfare is not included in the standard Donation Goal. However, Global Brigades’ travel team can work with volunteers to book airfare and incorporate the airfare expense into the volunteer’s Donation Goal. If the volunteer no longer participates in a Brigade, their flight will be cancelled and the volunteer can rest assured that the funds will still support projects in the Global Brigades mission.
