Granadilla Healthcare Access
Granadilla is a community located in a valley close to our Global Brigades compounds in the department of Francisco Morazan. Granadilla does not have a health center in the community due to its small size. There is a communinty health committee made up of 8 members that works in conjunction with the health center in order to provide some level of care at the community level. The closest health center is in a community called El Campo. At this CESAMO, there are both doctors and nurses on staff and occassionally a dentist. To reach the health center, community members can either take a bus for 15 minutes or walk approximately 1 hour.
Community Demographics
Granadilla is home to about 385 people and has about 73 homes, with an average of 5 inhabitants per home. Granadilla is located close to a main road and has access to two municipalities via bus, La Villa de San Francisco and Moroceli. These are main areas of commerce where community members can get access to more resources. However, it is still a relatively remote community very far from any major cities. During brigades, patients come from about 4 different communities to receive medical and dental care.

Brigade Site Information
Since this community does not have a health center, the brigade is held at the school. Since this community is small, the school is relatively small with only 3 rooms. There is ample outdoor space for charlas and traige to be done. Despite the small space we always run a successful brigade. Brigades will see an average of 325 patients each brigade day, and doctors typically spend about 10 minutes with each patient. Brigades are able to provide an average of 5-6 adult charlas a day, totaling about 5 hours of adult health education each brigade. Below are some pictures of the Brigade Site:
Current Community Initiatives
There are no other organizations that bring brigades to Granadilla. Global Brigades recently did a study to see if a water project would be feasible in this communinty and is looking to do a project here in the near future. For more information, check out the Granadilla Engineering Page.
