Ekotsi is situated on the main road, the Accra – Cape Coast Highway
which gives the community strong accessibility. Public transportation
is easily available for community members.
Available Medical Facilities
The Essueshyia Clinic is a larger medical facility and is about 2
kilometers away from Ekotsi and is easily accessible through public
transportation. The nearest Regional Hospital is in Saltpond, which is
a 15 minute drive.
District Information
The Ekumfi District has 57 communities with a total population of around
65,775. There are 7 CHPS Zones servicing the Ekumfi area, which are
equipped with Community Nurses, Midwives and Volunteers. There are
5 Public and Private Clinics in the district that offer more services than
the local CHPS Zones. The closest district hospital is in the neighboring
district of Mfantseman in the town of Saltpond. However, the closest
regional hospital with a large variety of services is located in Cape
Coast, approximately a 1 hour drive from Mankessim.
Community Volunteers
There is 1 Community Health Volunteer in Ekotsi, trained by the
government in first aid for children ages 0-5. However, Ekotsi community
members feel there is little need for Community Health Volunteers as the
access to healthcare has not been easily met since the transformation
of the Essueshiya CHPS Zone to a full Clinic.
