While on a visit for another patient referral, the Patient Referral team was introduces to this little 4 year old boy in the community of Cedros. Jose has been suffering from a rectal prolapse for over 1 year now. A rectal prolapse is a protrusion of either the rectal mucosa or the entire wall of the rectum. Rectal prolapses typically cause leakage of stool, mucus or blood from the anus, as well as pain, itching and irritation.
While on the visit, the team learned that Jose is the youngest of 2 kids. And that he is extremely camera shy. Jose's operation and all the expenses between that time are going to cost around $2000. This cost includes transportation to and from appointments for him and a family member, medications, supplies, and follow-up care.
Jose had his surgery in June of 2014 and his surgeon informed us that the surgery was extremely successful and went very well.
