Alison Muriel Santos
In Februrary, the Patient Referral team was referred to a little 5 year old girl. Alison has a keloid scar on her sternum from a burn when she was 3 and the scar tissue from the burn ended up not repairing normally. A keloid is considered a “scar that does not know how to stop”. It is a scar which there is an overgrowth of dense fibrous tissue.
Alison lives with 9 other people in her house. She lives with her mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Alison is being raised by her single mother (pictured left).
In September 2014, Alison met with a plastic surgeon and had a very successful surgery to remove the keloid growth and repair the surrounding tissue. The patient referral team took her for a follow up visit the following week and she is healing very well!
Thank you to everyone who has helped to make Alison's case a huge success!
