    business focused on raising and selling chickens.

Business Description

Ubilia Negria is a member of the Pueblo Nuevo community in Darien. She is a member of the Caja Rural, and supports herself full time as an artisan. She created a business raising and selling chickens in 2015, with the support of Global Business Brigades. She has been involved with this initiative for over 6 months, and would like to expand further, expressing an interest in planting Yucca as well to generate more income.

 

Current Status:

Business Information:

   • Mrs. Negria has sold four rounds of 50 chickens so far.

   • She has to travel to the nearest town, Santa Fe, to purchase additional chickens.

   • Chickens are sold for $1.50 per pound.

   • Mrs. Negria can sell each set of chickens for around $300 total.

   • Chicken feed costs $28 for each 2 month cycle.

 

Business Opportunity:
   • There are currently no other businesses selling chickens in the community

   • There is a business in the community that could buy directly from Mrs. Negria

   • She has taken almost every financial literacy workshop offered by Global Brigades

   • She is willing to plant Yucca, and learn to plan the process properly.

   • Mrs. Negria is willing to take out an additional loan to grow her business, and has repaid her

     previous loans successfully, and currently has one loan outstanding.

 

Business Obstacles: 

   • Mrs. Negria is still working to repay her current oustanding loan.

   • The estimated costs of her new Yucca venture have not been evaluated

   • Mrs. Negria does not keep a written record of costs for her business

 

Your Task

   • You will be tasked with completing a Loan Capacity Payment calculation, a document that takes

     into account incomes, assets, and debts in order to calculate the maximum allowable loan that

     can be responsibly paid back. This document is utilized by the community bank to approve the

     loan. 
   • Creation of a business plan and budgeting for the proposed Yucca growing initative.

   • Creation of a daily ledger for recording costs

   • Conduct sales and marketing training for Mrs. Negria
