Top Three Needs Expressed

•  The construction of a health center.

•  The construction of a potable water system so that all residents can gain access within the community.

•  The construction of at least 250 latrines.

Education

A school was constructed in 1997 by FISE and the EU. The school has morning sessions with up to 99 primary school students and 35 secondary school students from the surrounding area. Because Namanji is in a central location for many surrounding communities, students from adjacent communities attend school here.

Water

Eleven years ago, the local government constructed a water system that, at the time, was sufficient for all community members. Since that time, the population has tripled and the water system no longer covers every home. Community members without access to piped water often go to the river for laundry and bathing purposes.

Health

This community does not have a health unit because nearby communities already have them. However, difficulties arise due to a lack of available medications; patients must travel to the city to fill prescriptions in some cases.

Socio-Economic

The primary source of income for community members is the cultivation of tobacco and cereal grains; vegetables are produced on a smaller scale. Most of the arable land is owned by a small group of people; consequently, most laborers only work on behalf of other people. Small businesses are another source of income.
