Villa Darién Medical Access

Villa Darién (as its name suggests) is in the Darién province of East Panama,

between our lodging facility Pro Niños and the town of Metetí.  The

community is also known by "Anayansi" and neighbors the community

Punuloso.  Community members in Villa Darién must travel to Metetí to seek

medical care. 

Community Demographics

Villa Darién is home to about 800 people and has about 150 homes,
with an average of 5-6 inhabitants per home.  The community is primarily

Latino, but there are a few indigenous communities nearby.  Close to 10% of

the community's homes do not yet have cement floors.

Brigade Site Information

With the cooperation of the Education Ministry and the local school

director, Medical and Dental Brigades host clinics in the community

school. The school consists of six classrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a

computer lab, and a playground so we have the ability to set up each clinic

station in its own classroom. Volunteers will see an average of 80-100

patients per clinic day.
