Sartenejas Healthcare Access

Sartenejas is a community located in the municipality of Danli in the department of El Paraiso. The community has access to a local health center that is at most a 20 minute walk for community members. This local health center is known as a CESAMO, which is the larger of the two different types of health centers provided by the government. It is usually staffed by at least one doctor and several nurses. On occasion, community members have access to a dentist. Should a visitor to the health center require more medical attention than can be given at the center, community members can travel to the hospital in Danli most commonly by bus or on foot. Overall, Sartenejas has a decent health center that is readily accessible.

Community Demographics

Sartenejas is home to about 1,295 people and has about 242 homes, with an average of 5 inhabitants per home. It is the center of a larger area including 2 other communities: Chirinas and El Higuerito. These communities visit the same health center in Zapotillo and they also attend medical brigades in Sartenejas.

Brigade Site Information

Since space is limited in the health center, brigades are held at the school. The school is large, with about 7 rooms total for brigade stations and plenty of outdoor space. Doctors spend an average of 10 minutes with each patient and volunteers are able to provide 5-6 educational charlas a day.  Each brigade sees an average of 300 patients per day. Below are some pictures of the Brigade Site:
