Quebrada Honda is a community located along the Pan-American
highway near the municipality of Santa Fe in Darién. Quebrada Honda
does not have a health center in its community; instead, community
members must travel to Santa Fe to use its health center. Sometimes,
during high rainy seasons, access to Santa Fe is limited by flooded
bridges, meaning community members must travel out of the Darién
province to Torti to receive basic healthcare.
Community Demographics
Quebrada Honda is home to about 500 people and has about 120 homes,
with an average of 4 inhabitants per home.
Brigade Site Information
Since space is limited in the health center, we hold brigades at the
school. The school is still relatively small, with about 4 rooms.
Despite the smaller space, we always run a successful brigade.
Volunteers will see an average of 100 patients per day, and doctors
typically spend about 10 minutes with each patient. Brigades are
able to provide an average of 5-6 adult charlas a day, totaling about
9-10 hours of adult health education each brigade.
