Additional Information
General Community Profile
Pre-Brigade Curriculum
On-Brigade Curriculum

Playa Chuzo is located in the thick of Eastern Panama's picturesque hills

and fields. The community has better medical access than many of GB

Panama's communities due to its proximity to the district capital, Tortí.

The town is about 10 minutes away from Tortí by bus.  Additionally, a few

other non-profit organizations have hosted medical clinics in Playa Chuzo

in the past.

Community Demographics

Playa Chuzo is home to about 330 people and has about 85 homes,
with an average of 3-4 inhabitants per home.  The community primarily

consists of Latino farmers, unskilled laborers, and cattle-ranchers.

Brigade Site Information

Since space is limited in the health center, we hold brigades at the

school. The school is still relatively small, with about 5 rooms.

In addition to the 5 classrooms, the school has a kitchen, a dining room,

and a playground area.  The school is right off of the Pan-American

highway and is immediately adjacent to a corn field.  Volunteers will see

an average of 80 patients per day, and doctors typically spend about 10

minutes with each patient.  Brigades are able to provide about 9-10 hours

of adult health education each brigade.
