Los Higueros Healthcare Access
Los Higueros is a small community located off of a main highway. Los Higueros does not have a health center in the community due to its small size. There is no communinty health committee to monitor health at the community level. The closest health center is in a community called Santa Cruz. At this CESAR, there are only nurses available to attend patients. Community members must walk to the health center as there is no bus that comes to the community. The walk can take up to an hour to reach the health center. If community members need to see a doctor or dentist, they must travel even further to reach a larger health center.
Community Demographics
Los Higueros is home to about 309 people and has about 103 homes, with an average of 3 inhabitants per home. Los Higueros is located near the municipalities of El Paraiso and the city of Danli. These are main areas of commerce where community members can get access to more resources. Community members are relatively close to the main road where they can take the bus to these areas. During brigades, patients come from about 7 different communities to receive medical and dental care.

Brigade Site Information
Since this community does not have a health center, the brigade is held at the school. The school is small due to the size of the community, with 3 rooms and some outdoor space. Despite this space, we have run brigades with up to 45 students in this community. Brigades will see an average of 250 patients each brigade day, and doctors typically spend about 10 minutes with each patient. Brigades are able to provide an average of 5-6 adult charlas a day, totaling about 11 hours of adult health education each brigade. Below are some pictures of the Brigade Site:
