El Caño is located about 35 minutes west of Penonome, the capital of Coclé
in western Panama. After traveling past Penonome in the direction of Costa
Rica, brigades will take a left off of the Pan-American highway to reach El
Caño's elementary school by a local road. El Caño has a small health
sub-center, but the closest full-size health center is in Penonome.
Community Demographics
Nuestro Amo is home to about 1,100 people and has about 700 homes, with an
average of 1-2 inhabitants per home. El Caño is primarily a Latin
community.
Brigade Site Information
With the cooperation of the Education Ministry and the local school director,
Medical and Dental Brigades host clinics in the community school. The
school consists of 10 classrooms, a kitchen, a cafeteria, a teachers' office, a
playground, and a computer lab. We set up each clinic station in its own
classroom. Volunteers will see an average of 80-100 patients per day.
