Community Volunteers

EKRAWFO GB clinic photo.JPGThere is 1 government trained community health volunteer in Ekrawfo. They weigh and measure children as well as assist in vaccinations. There are also two local healers, helping community members choose natural/ traditional alternatives to treat ailments. There are three traditional birth attendants who assist women in giving birth in the comfort of their home. The traditional birth attendants are trained by midwives to identify when the situation is beyond their control and when to refer to the hospital. These local healers and traditional birth attendants usually service the community members who have traditional religious beliefs. The local healers and traditional birth attendants are paid per service provided.

Current Community Initiatives

The community had expressed a feeding problem at the school, as children often leave school to find food. In order to help this problem, the community requests that each child pays 1 GHC per month to help support a food program at the school.

There is no formal Hygiene and Sanitation committee in the community, but two people make announcements on the community's loud speaker approximately once a week. Topics they speak about include personal hygiene and latrine health.

One of our sponsored referral patients, Emmanuel, was identified at a previous clinic in Ekrawfo. If you are interested in finding out more information about Emmanuel or willing to contribute to his future please visit his Empowered page here: http://www.empowered.org/Emmanuel-Mensah
