Alauca Healthcare Access

Alauca is a community in the east of Honduras located near the

municipality of El Paraiso.  The people of Alauca are fortunate

enough to have a health center in their community. This health centeris a CESAMO,  the larger of the two different types of health centers that the government provides.  It almost always has at least one doctor on staff and several nurses.  They also occassionally have access to a dentist.  Even though the health center is well staffed, patients still experience long waits and sometimes are not able to be seen the same day due to overcrowding.  Medication is also no always available depending on what the government sends. Compared to some other more remote communities, Alauca has decent access to health care.

Community Demographics

Alauca is home to about 1200 people and has about 220 homes, with an average of 5 inhabitants per home.  Alauca is close to an urban area and serves a lot of smaller communities with its health

center and secondary school.  There are over 15 smaller communities that come to brigades and the health center and secondary school.  Students will walk from communities up to two hours away to attend

school in Alauca.

Brigade Site Information

The brigade is held at the school since it has considerably more space than any other building in the community, including the health center.  The school is very large, with 14 full sized classrooms.

The school has ample space for the brigade to run and can accommodate large groups of students.  Below are some pictures of the school brigade site.
