Currently, El Trapiche has one school, Centro Basico Francisco Morazan. The school has 6 teachers, 320 students total (from kindergarten through 6th grade) and 7 classrooms. The school is located in the heart of the community. Most students walk around 5-25 minutes to get to there.
El Trapiche has a gravity-fed water system that was built by personnel from the United States' Peace Corps. It has been the main source of water for 36 years. Presently, 90% of the homes are connected to the system. Unfortunately, not all those who receive water are taking the necessary pre-cautions before drinking the water (i.e. chlorination tablets, etc).
Similar to the school, the health center is located in the center of the community. It takes between 5-45 minutes for inhabitants to reach the health center. The most commonly reported illnesses are: Diarrhea, Dengue, Skin Infections, Diabetes, Gastrointestinal problems, and High Blood Pressure.
The community of El Trapiche currently benefits from having 2 community banks: Nuevo Esfuerzo and Nueva Luz. The main fountains of income come from traditional agriculture. Unfortunately, community members do not have access to credit and there are no micro-enterprises.
Some noted observations from the community include the following:
Access to the main road is through a dirt road, there is a water council present, a women's organziation and there is plenty of space for brigades.
