Geography

2 Cholutecamap.png

El Trapiche is located in the Choluteca department in the south of Honduras. It is located near the municipality of Choluteca, a large urban area.

Education

El Trapiche has access to school of 320 students through 6th grade. The school has 6 teachers, one for each grade.

Water

The water system in El Trapiche was built 36 years ago and is connected to 90% of the community households. The water system has not shown any major problems, other than a lack of chlorination. The water is not chlorinated in the system so community members must find other manners to purify the water in their homes so it is safe for drinking.

Health

El Trapiche has a CESAR health center, which is the smaller of two health centers the Honduran government offers. Located in the center of the community, the CESAR provides care by nurses. The most common illness seen in the community are diarrhea, respiratory infections, skin infections and rashes, diabetes, digestive issues, and cardiac issues.

If further healthcare is needed from a doctor or dentist, a community member must travel outside El Trapiche to receive care.

Socio-economics

The primary type of employment in El Trapiche is agriculture. The main products that are cultivated are corn and beans.

The community members of El Trapiche have access to two community banks, Nuevo Esfuerzo and Nuevo Luz.
