El Espino is located in the Nacaome municipality of the Valle department.

Education

There is a school in El Espino with classes up to 9th grade. In the primary school there are 8 classrooms, 8 teachers, and 120 students. There is also a kinder school in the community that has 2 teachers and 26 students.

 

 

Water

The water system in El Espino was constructed 8 years ago by an Italian organization. The entire community is connected and has access to the system which produces clean water that is treated with chlorine.

Health

Community members of El Espino must travel 30 minutes to El Tular to access the nearest health facility. In El Tular there is a CESAMO, or the larger of two different types of health centers that the Honduran government offers.

Socio-economics

There is a community bank in El Espino. Income is driven by farming melon, sugarcane, corn, and plaintains as well as fishing shrimp. Community members in this area also care for animals and sell animal products such as meat, dairy products, and eggs.
