Gift Aid Declaration
Are you a UK taxpayer? If so, you can make your contribution worth more at no extra cost and have Gift Aid funds support the year-round health and sustainable development initiatives in our communities.
If you are a student volunteer or a non-UK taxpayer, you will not be able to claim Gift Aid.
Instead of having a donor transfer the money to you and you transferring it to your donations page, could the donor transfer it directly?
This will ensure that Global Brigades can claim the full 25% Gift Aid which will go towards empowering communities and improving the quality of the program.
If you would like to increase the value of your support to Global Brigades UK,
simply electronically sign the box below indicating you agree to Gift Aid’s terms and will allow Global Brigades UK
to claim the tax back on your donations for the purposes of sustainable development work.
If all donors opt into this for this year, Global Brigades UK will be able to budget more than £50,000 for community projects in Ghana, Hondruas and Panama.
We appreciate your support!
Personal Declaration
N.B. You must pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax in each tax year (6 April one
year to 5 April the next) at least equal to the tax that Global Brigades UK will reclaim from the
HMRC on your gift aid donations (currently 25p for every £1 you give).
Notes:
1. Gift Aid works by allowing charities to reclaim tax on a donation’s ‘gross’ equivalent (its value before tax was
deducted) at the basic rate. Basic rate tax is currently 20%, which allows charities to reclaim 25 pence on the
pound plus a transitional relief of 3 pence on the pound granted by HMRC until 2011.
2. Higher rate tax payers can claim back the difference between basic rate and higher rate tax. If you pay tax at the
higher rate, you can claim this further tax relief via your Self Assessment tax return. Donors who complete a Self
Assessment tax return will have the option to gift back the higher rate element of the tax relief to MSF. Simply fill
in our Charity Code: HAL18QG in box 19a of the Full SA tax return form or section 12 on the Short SA tax return.
Donors who do not complete a Self Assessment tax return can call their tax office and have the higher rate relief
reflected in their PAYE tax code.
3. If you do not pay tax, you should not use Gift Aid.
4. If your circumstances change and you no longer pay enough income or capital gains tax to cover the
amount claimed by MSF, you can cancel your declaration by notifying the Global Brigades Fundraising team at
(admin@globalbrigades.org). Your declaration will then not apply to donations you make on or after the date of
cancellation or such later date as you specify.
5. Gift Aid declarations must be made in a single name and require a full residential address.
