As some of you may know, I have been selected to participate in a Global Medical Brigade in Honduras during June 2016. The Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Global Medical Brigades works with local government, international and local doctors, and student leaders to develop a medical program to provide consistent access to healthcare in communities where clinics are scarce, without sufficient medicines, or severely understaffed. This year, Global Medical Brigades at UCSB will be setting up a mobile clinic in Nicaragua to provide consultations with patients who would not otherwise be able to afford or have access to healthcare. The brigade will provide my peers and me with the unique opportunity to work closely with medical professionals and to gain an unforgettable experience providing healthcare in a developing country. I am so honored to be a part of an awesome team that aims to provide underserved communities with the tools and resources that unfortunately are not readily available to them.
