What is a Brigade?
Brigades Def'n. Groups of passionate volunteers who mobilize towards positive social change.
Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of university students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve the quality of life in under-resourced regions while respecting local culture.
Global Brigades offers short-term brigade programs in Central America and West Africa addressing needs in health and economic development. Each program has been developed in conjunction with community members and students to empower community members and leaders while engaging students to deliver high-impact solutions. Each brigade has a minimum number of required volunteers and is organized through student chapters on university campuses or through professional chapters at companies.

Our student-led volunteer base is the driving force behind the funding of our sustainable model. Through fundraising and participation on brigades, volunteers are able to support the implementation of Global Brigades’ Holistic Model.
